SMWAKQ The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a * Special Marine Warning for. Coastal Waters from Cape Charles Light to Virginia-North Carolina border out to 20 nm. Coastal waters from NC VA border to Currituck Beach Light NC out 20 nm. Currituck Sound. Waters from Cape Charles Light to Virginia - North Carolina Border from 20 to 40 nm. Waters from NC VA border to Currituck Beach Light NC from 20 to 40 nm. * Until 300 PM EDT. * At 145 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was located 8 nm west of Knotts Island Bay, moving east at 20 knots. HAZARD. Waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater. SOURCE. Radar. IMPACT. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. * Locations impacted include. Horseshoe, Knotts Island Bay, Buoy 4a Drydocks, and Deal Island.

* WHAT. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE. Portions of northeast North Carolina, including the following areas, Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Eastern Currituck, Gates, Hertford, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans and Western Currituck and southeast Virginia, including the following areas, Chesapeake, Norfolk/Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach. * WHEN. Through this evening. * IMPACTS. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected through this evening. Widespread rainfall totals of 1-2" are likely, with localized amounts of 3" or more possible. Portions of northeast North Carolina, including the following counties, Camden, Currituck and Pasquotank and southeast Virginia, including the following independent cities, City of Chesapeake and City of Virginia Beach. * WHEN. Until 445 PM EDT. * IMPACTS. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 142 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include. Virginia Beach, Currituck, Elizabeth City, South Mills, Chesapeake, Moyock, Northwest, Back Bay, Fentress, Knotts Island, Princess Anne, Morgans Corner, Snowden, Munden, Sligo, Hickory, Shawboro, Gregory, Mount Pleasant and Tar Corner. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
