SMWLWX The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a * Special Marine Warning for. Chesapeake Bay from Pooles Island to Sandy Point MD. Chesapeake Bay from Sandy Point to North Beach MD. Chester River to Queenstown MD. * Until 400 PM EDT. * At 258 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was located near Baltimore Light, moving southeast at 15 knots. HAZARD. Wind gusts 34 knots or greater and waterspouts. SOURCE. Radar indicated. IMPACT. Boaters in small craft could be thrown overboard by suddenly higher winds and waves capsizing their vessel. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. * Locations impacted include. Love Point, Pinehurst, Chester River, Sandy Point State Park, Baltimore Light, Gibson Island, Kent Narrows Bridge, Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and Rock Hall.

Winds and waves may be locally higher with gusts of 20 to 25 knots in and near any storms, with variable and erratic wind directions possible. Lightning strikes are also possible, as well as lowered visibility to around one nautical mile in heavy rain. Mariners should consider staying in or near safe harbor, and remain alert for threatening weather conditions or possible Special Marine Warnings.
