At 311 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Fort Eustis, or 7 miles north of Smithfield. This thunderstorm was nearly stationary. HAZARD. Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE. Radar indicated. IMPACT. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include. Newport News, Smithfield, Christopher Newport University, Rescue, Denbigh, Beaconsdale, Fort Eustis, Rushmere, Chippokes State Park, Hilton Village, Lawson, Bacons Castle, Poolesville, Moonlight, Oyster Point, Hog Island Game Reserve, Alliance, Mogarts Beach, Menchville, and Bethel Church.

FFWAKQ The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for. The North Central City of Chesapeake in southeastern Virginia. The City of Norfolk in southeastern Virginia. The City of Portsmouth in southeastern Virginia. The Northwestern City of Virginia Beach in southeastern Virginia. * Until 445 PM EDT. * At 149 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 1.5 inches in 30 minutes. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD. Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE. Radar. IMPACT. Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 156 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are expected over the area during the next 40 minutes. - Some locations that will experience flooding include.
