The Flood Warning continues for the South Fork Catawba River in North Carolina. At Lowell affecting Gaston County. .Significant flooding continues along the lower South Fork Catawba River valley following 5 to 8 inch rainfall accumulations caused a stationary front interacting with tropical moisture and Tropical Storm Helene. The tributaries in the South Fork Catawba watershed have crested and receded back below Action Stage/Bankfull. The last of the floodwave is moving through the lower reaches of the South Fork Catawba River now with a crest expected slighly below 15.0 later this morning. At these levels, significant flooding of Goat Island and Riverside parks is ongoing with shallow floodwater affecting Riverside Dr, Greenwood Pl, 5th St, and 4th St. Later today through early Monday morning, expect a gradual recession back below Action Stage/Bankfull levels. * WHAT. Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE. South Fork Catawba River at Lowell. * WHEN. Until early Tuesday morning. * IMPACTS. At 13.0 feet, Moderate Flood Stage. Unusual, damaging flooding is developing adjacent to the South Fork Catawba River with considerable impacts to property. Significant flooding of Goat Island Park and Riverside Park is ongoing. Floodwaters are threatening the Cramerton Fire Department and adjacent businesses. The river is approaching the crawlspaces of homes along Riverside Dr between 4th St and 5th St in Cramerton. * At 15.5 feet, Major Flood Stage. South Fork Catawba River floodwaters may be inundating the Cramerton Fire Department, Cramerton Drug Store, South Fork Masonic Lodge, and adjacent homes and businesses along 8th Ave. and N. Main St. Floodwaters may be approaching the Cramerton Police Department. Flooding of Duharts Creek may be impacting adjacent sections of Mayflower Rd., and Cramer Mountain Rd. may be inundated with several inches of water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 3:15 AM EDT Saturday the stage was 14.9 feet and rising slightly. - Action/Advisory Stage is 9.0 feet. - Forecast. The river is expected to rise to a crest of 14.9 feet this morning. It will then fall below Minor Flood Stage late tomorrow evening. - Minor Flood Stage is 10.0 feet. South Fork Catawba River At Lowell affecting Gaston County. .The South Fork Catawba River near Lowell, NC has crested and is slowly falling. The river is now in minor flood stage. Expect a gradual recession back below Action Stage/Bankfull levels by midweek. * WHAT. Minor flooding is occurring. * WHERE. South Fork Catawba River at Lowell. * WHEN. Until tomorrow evening. * IMPACTS. At 11.5 feet, Minor Flooding continues. The South Fork Catawba River is likely inundating Riverside Dr. between 5th and 6th Streets in Cramerton with several inches of water. The pumping station at Pharr Yarns in McAdenville may begin to flood. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 9:15 PM EDT Sunday the stage was 11.7 feet. - Bankfull stage is 9.0 feet. - Recent Activity. The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 9:15 PM EDT Sunday was 15.3 feet. - Forecast. The river is expected to fall below flood stage tomorrow morning and continue falling to 3.5 feet Friday evening. - Flood stage is 10.0 feet. - Flood History. * WHAT. Flooding caused by upstream dam release is occurring. * WHERE. A portion of piedmont North Carolina, including the following counties, Gaston and Mecklenburg. * WHEN. Until 945 PM EDT Monday. * IMPACTS. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. At 104 feet, significant inundation of outbuildings is ongoing around Mountain Island Lake and downstream of the dam along/near Riverside Dr. Residents downstream of the dam should be evacuated and heeding guidance from Char-Meck Emergency Management. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 945 PM EDT, an upstream floodgate release is expected to cause continued flooding in Mountain Island Lake and Riverside Dr Community. The flood stage has crested and continues to fall. It has now fallen below major flood stage, but impacts are still ongoing. - This includes the following streams and drainages. trib to Catawba river, Fites creek, Paw Creek, Gar Creek, McDowell Creek, Trib to Lake Norman, Long Creek, Catawba River, Johnson Creek and Dutchmans Creek. Flooding is occurring along the Catawba River. - Some locations that will experience flooding include. * WHAT. Flooding caused by earlier excessive rainfall is occurring. * WHERE. A portion of piedmont North Carolina, including the following counties, Alexander, Catawba and Iredell. * WHEN. Until 200 PM EDT Monday. * IMPACTS. Flooding due to runoff and release of water over Oxford Dam and Lookout Shoals Dam. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 139 PM EDT, emergency management reported flooding along the shores and downstream of Lake Hickory and Lookout Shoals Lake. Flooding is already occurring. Lake levels may fluctuate as water is released. - Please stay away from the area and allow first responders to perform their recovery efforts. Please obey all barricades which remain in place for your safety as numerous roadways have been compromised by flood waters and may not be safe. Emergency management is urging people who can stay home to do so. Discontinue inundating 911 centers with non-emergency calls (e.g., trees down). Please continue to heed all guidance from law enforcement and emergency management as they continue to work tirelessly to keep people safe. Do not attempt to drive through any flooded roadways. - Some locations that will experience flooding include.
