The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has declared an Air Quality Advisory for July 14th for elevated levels of ozone in west Michigan. Pollutants within those areas are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG, Orange AQI) range. The Air Quality Advisory is in effect for the following Michigan counties: In West Michigan: Allegan, Berrien, Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, Van Buren Ample sunlight in the afternoon along with heat and favorable winds will allow for Ozone to develop beyond the USG AQI range. It is recommended that, when possible, you avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with respiratory diseases such as asthma. People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which can lead to ozone formation. These activities include: refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling; using gasoline powered lawn equipment; using charcoal lighter fluid. Positive activities include: driving less; telecommuting; walking or bike riding; delaying or combining errands; using water-based paints. Saint Joseph River Michigan at South Bend affecting Elkhart, St. Joseph and Berrien Counties. For the Saint Joseph River Michigan. including Three Rivers, Mottville, Elkhart IN, South Bend, Niles. Minor flooding is forecast. * WHAT. Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE. Saint Joseph River Michigan at South Bend. * WHEN. Until Monday, July 22. * IMPACTS. At 6.0 feet, Flooding is confined to mostly park land and golf courses. Leeper Park and Petro golf courses begin to flood. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 10:15 AM EDT Monday the stage was 5.8 feet. - Recent Activity. The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 10:15 AM EDT Monday was 5.9 feet. - Forecast. The river is expected to rise to a crest of 6.7 feet early Thursday afternoon.
