The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington DC has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in Virginia. South River near Waynesboro affecting Augusta and City of Waynesboro independent cities. For the South River. including Waynesboro. Minor flooding is forecast. * WHAT. Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE. South River near Waynesboro. * WHEN. From late tonight to late tomorrow morning. * IMPACTS. At 10.0 feet, Portions of the Club Court neighborhood, Rife Road, and Shore Road, along with nearby homes, are flooded. Water also reaches low lying areas of downtown Waynesboro. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 3:15 PM EDT Friday the stage was 7.6 feet, or 1.9 feet below flood stage. - Forecast. The river is expected to rise above flood stage just after midnight tonight to a crest of 9.8 feet just after midnight tonight. It will then fall below flood stage late tonight. - Flood stage is 9.5 feet. - Flood History. Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE. South River near Waynesboro. * WHEN. From this evening to early tomorrow afternoon. * IMPACTS. At 11.0 feet, Significant portions of downtown Waynesboro are flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 5:15 PM EDT Friday the stage was 10.2 feet, or 0.7 feet above flood stage. - Recent Activity. The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 5:15 PM EDT Friday was 10.2 feet. - Forecast. The river will rise to 11.5 feet this evening. It will then fall below flood stage tomorrow morning to 5.5 feet Sunday evening. It will rise to 6.0 feet Monday morning. It will then fall again and remain below flood stage. - Flood stage is 9.5 feet. - Flood History. * WHAT. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE. A portion of central Virginia, including the following counties, Albemarle and Nelson. * WHEN. Until midnight EDT tonight. * IMPACTS. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 701 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated that 2 to 5 inches have fallen over the Blue Ridge Mountains. Runoff from that rainfall will impact the Tye River and Rockfish River in Nelson County as well as the Mechams River, Moormans River, and the North Fork Rivanna River in Albemarle County. Gauges continue to show water rising across these areas. Water is already approaching the yards of homes along Free Union Road by the Mechams River in White Hall. - Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. - Some locations that will experience flooding include. At 13.0 feet, Numerous homes and businesses in Waynesboro are flooded, along with many roads. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 6:15 PM EDT Friday the stage was 11.7 feet, or 2.2 feet above flood stage. - Recent Activity. The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 6:15 PM EDT Friday was 11.7 feet. - Forecast. The river is expected to rise to a crest of 12.5 feet this evening. In western Virginia, Augusta and Rockingham. * WHEN. Until 1030 PM EDT. * IMPACTS. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings could be inundated with water and may not be passable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 507 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain. Flooding is expected to continue in the warned area as creeks and streams rise out of their banks. The Nelson County 911 Center reported a few roads closed due to high water flowing over them near the Blue Ridge Mountains. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include.
