HLSBRO This product covers The Rio Grande Valley and Deep South Texas **HURRICANE HUNTERS FIND BERYL SLIGHTLY STRONGER** **THREATS TO COASTAL DEEP SOUTH TEXAS ARE DECREASING** NEW INFORMATION --------------- * CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - The Tropical Storm Warning has been cancelled for Cameron Island, Coastal Cameron, Coastal Willacy, and Willacy Island * CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal Kenedy and Kenedy Island * STORM INFORMATION: - About 140 miles northeast of Brownsville TX or about 120 miles east-northeast of Port Mansfield TX - 27.1N 95.6W - Storm Intensity 70 mph - Movement North-northwest or 340 degrees at 12 mph SITUATION OVERVIEW ------------------ As of 7 PM CDT, Tropical Storm Beryl was centered about 120 mi ESE Corpus Christi, TX and moving NNW at 12 mph towards the middle Texas coast. Current wind speed is 70 mph with higher gusts. Beryl is expected to become a hurricane before making landfall along the middle Texas Coast around sunrise Monday. Tropical Storm Warnings continue for coastal Kenedy and Kenedy Island. Tropical Storm Warnings have been canceled for coastal Willacy and Cameron counties, including the barrier islands from Port Mansfield southward. Coastal areas will continue to see impacts into this evening include high rip current risk, coastal run-up, and dangerous seas. Gusty winds and heavy rainfall impacts will still be possible with rain bands. There is a limited tornado risk along the coast. Conditions are expected to continue to improve this evening into the overnight hours. POTENTIAL IMPACTS ----------------- * WIND: Protect against hazardous wind having possible limited impacts across COASTAL Kenedy county. Potential impacts in this area include: - Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about. - Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown over. - A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways. - Scattered power and communications outages. Elsewhere across The Rio Grande Valley and Deep South Texas, little to no impact is anticipated. * SURGE: Protect against locally hazardous surge having possible limited impacts across the lower Texas coast. Potential impacts in this area include: - Localized inundation with storm surge flooding mainly along immediate shorelines and in low-lying spots, or in areas farther inland near where higher surge waters move ashore. - Sections of near-shore roads and exposed parking lots could become covered with some surge water. Driving conditions dangerous in places where surge water covers the road. - Moderate beach erosion. Heavy surf also breaching dunes, mainly in usually vulnerable locations.
