HLSHGX This product covers Southeast Texas **BERYL PRODUCING FLASH FLOODING AND TORNADOES OVER EASTERN TEXAS AND WESTERN LOUISIANA** NEW INFORMATION --------------- * CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - The Tropical Storm Warning has been cancelled for Brazos, Coastal Galveston, Coastal Harris, Galveston Island, Grimes, Inland Galveston, Inland Harris, Madison, Montgomery, Walker, and Waller * CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Coastal Galveston, Coastal Harris, and Galveston Island - A Storm Surge Warning and Tropical Storm Warning are in effect for Bolivar Peninsula and Chambers - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Houston, Northern Liberty, Polk, San Jacinto, Southern Liberty, and Trinity * STORM INFORMATION: - About 140 miles north of Galveston TX or about 190 miles north-northeast of Matagorda TX - 31.3N 95.1W - Storm Intensity 45 mph - Movement North-northeast or 25 degrees at 16 mph SITUATION OVERVIEW ------------------ Conditions continue to improve as Beryl exits the area. As such, the Tropical Storm Warnings and Storm Surge Warnings have been reduced further to cover the far eastern portion of our zone. The threats for tornadoes and additional heavy rainfall have ended. Additional wind and surge impacts will be more limited. Ongoing flooding is still occuring from previous rainfall. Those in impacted areas should continue to follow the advice of local officials. Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway. If you have lost power and are using a generator, never turn it on indoors or in a garage. This can result in potentially fatal carbon monoxide poisoning. POTENTIAL IMPACTS ----------------- * WIND: Potential impacts from the main wind event are now unfolding across Southeast Texas. Remain well sheltered from hazardous wind having additional limited impacts. If realized, these impacts include: - Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about. - Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown over. - A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways. - Scattered power and communications outages. * SURGE: Potential impacts from the main surge event are now unfolding across the immediate Southeast Texas coastline. Remain well away from life-threatening surge having additional significant impacts. If realized, these impacts include: - Areas of inundation with storm surge flooding accentuated by waves. Damage to several buildings, mainly near the coast. - Sections of near-shore escape routes and secondary roads become weakened or washed out, especially in usually vulnerable low spots. - Major beach erosion with heavy surf breaching dunes. Strong and numerous rip currents. - Moderate damage to marinas, docks, boardwalks, and piers. Several small craft broken away from moorings, especially in unprotected anchorages. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS ---------------------------------- * EVACUATIONS: Follow the advice of local officials. * OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION: Now is the time to stay inside and away from windows. Listen for updates and be ready in case you lose electrical power. Keep a battery-powered radio, charged cell phone and flashlight handy. Keep your cell phone charged and in power-saving mode. If you lose power, use it sparingly and mainly for personal emergencies and check-ins. * ADDITIONAL SOURCES OF INFORMATION: - For information on appropriate preparations see ready.gov - For information on creating an emergency plan see getagameplan.org - For additional disaster preparedness information see redcross.org NEXT UPDATE ----------- The next local statement will be issued by the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston TX around 7 PM CDT, or sooner if conditions warrant.

Small streams, creeks, canals, arroyos, and ditches overflow. - Flood waters can enter some structures or weaken foundations. Several places may experience expanded areas of rapid inundation at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage areas. Some streets and parking lots take on moving water as storm drains and retention ponds overflow. Driving conditions become hazardous. Some road and bridge closures. Prepare for locally hazardous rainfall flooding having possible limited impacts across southeast Texas. * TORNADOES: Prepare for a particularly dangerous tornado event having possible extensive impacts across southwest Louisiana. Potential impacts include: - The occurrence of numerous tornadoes can greatly hinder the execution of emergency plans during tropical events. - Many places may experience tornado damage with a few spots of immense destruction, power loss, and communications failures. - Locations could realize roof and wall failures of sturdy buildings with some being leveled, structures upon weak foundations blown away, mobile homes obliterated, large trees twisted and snapped with forested trees uprooted, vehicles lifted off the ground and thrown, and boats destroyed. Large and deadly projectiles can add to the toll. Prepare for a dangerous tornado event having possible limited to significant impacts across southeast Texas. * SURGE: Prepare for life-threatening surge having possible significant impacts across southern Jefferson County. Potential impacts in this area include: - Areas of inundation with storm surge flooding accentuated by waves. Damage to several buildings, mainly near the coast. - Sections of near-shore escape routes and secondary roads become weakened or washed out, especially in usually vulnerable low spots. - Major beach erosion with heavy surf breaching dunes. Strong and numerous rip currents. - Moderate damage to marinas, docks, boardwalks, and piers. Several small craft broken away from moorings, especially in unprotected anchorages. Also, prepare for locally hazardous surge having possible limited impacts across coastal southwest Louisiana. Elsewhere across Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas, little to no impact is anticipated. * WIND: Prepare for hazardous wind having possible limited impacts across Southeast Texas. Potential impacts in this area include: - Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Elsewhere across Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas, little to no impact is anticipated. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS ---------------------------------- * EVACUATIONS: Follow the advice of local officials. * OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION: If you live in a place particularly vulnerable to flooding, such as near the ocean or a large inland lake, in a low-lying or poor drainage area, in a valley, or near an already swollen river, plan to move to safe shelter on higher ground.
